Bischof broke the deadlock six minutes before half-time after Wirtz created the opening. The youngster repeatedly found room between Serbia’s midfield lines and combined sharply with Wirtz throughout the evening.
Wirtz then doubled the advantage in the 61st minute, arriving to finish a move involving Maximilian Mittelstädt. Mittelstädt provided width down the left and stretched Serbia’s compact defensive shape before supplying the decisive pass.
Germany’s goalkeeper made one save in an otherwise quiet night, while the defence prevented Serbia from building meaningful attacks. Anton dominated in the air and cut out potential counter-attacks, while Thiaw kept Luka Jovic on the edge of the contest and stepped forward to support the press.
Germany’s full-back pushed high and moved inside during possession, helping the hosts create an extra man in midfield. The defensive unit’s discipline in transition ensured Serbia could not exploit space behind the high line.
Aleksandar Pavlovic dictated the central areas, completing the overwhelming majority of his passes and shielding the back four before his late withdrawal. Scherhant supplied work rate and movement from a wide role, opening lanes for Germany’s attacking players even without a direct goal contribution.
Captain Serge Gnabry found intelligent positions but lacked a finishing touch before being replaced by El Mala at the interval. El Mala added fresh energy and direct running as Germany maintained their attacking pressure after the break.
Woltemade served as the focal point, holding the ball up and occupying Serbia’s central defenders to give Wirtz greater freedom. He was replaced for the final 13 minutes by a quicker option, but Germany could not add to the score.
A Celtic player entered in the 77th minute and showed flashes of quality in a brief appearance. Further late substitutions helped Germany manage the closing stages, including a midfield introduction in the 88th minute.
Klopp’s team were organised around a high defensive line, aggressive pressing and fluid rotations in possession. Starting Bischof alongside Wirtz paid off immediately; the next task is to turn such total control into a more ruthless scoreline.
