Argentina swept aside Bolivia 4-0 in Cordoba, with Lionel Scaloni now preparing his squad for Thursday’s friendly against Burkina Faso as the home international window continues.

Lautaro Martinez, Nico Paz, Cristian Romero and Jose “Flaco” Lopez were on target in a comfortable win that gave Scaloni another chance to test players during Argentina’s three-match home series. Benin will provide the final opposition of the window.

Scaloni relishes new faces in Argentina camp

The Argentina coach said the most rewarding part of his job is watching new players enter the senior setup and understand the weight of representing the world champions.

Scaloni was particularly pleased to see younger members of the group joining established internationals for the national anthem before the Bolivia match.

“It was wonderful to see so many young players enjoying themselves and singing the national anthem like any other player,” Scaloni said. “For any coach, it is exciting to hand a player his debut. As a national-team coach, even more so, because you see on their faces what it means to wear this shirt.”

He stressed that playing for Argentina remains a special honour for every member of the squad, regardless of experience.

Lopez earns coach’s backing

Palmeiras forward Lopez completed the scoring with a late finish after a rebound, and Scaloni singled him out for his contribution beyond the goal.

The coach praised the striker’s pressing, movement and attitude since arriving in the senior camp, while underlining the value of competition for attacking places.

“We are happy with Flaco,” Scaloni said. “He always generates opportunities and he is a complete player, with pressing and quality. His behaviour has also been excellent. We remain a competitive national team. I told the players I was proud that they wanted to be here.”

Next up: Argentina face Burkina Faso on Thursday, when Scaloni will continue assessing his options before the final friendly against Benin.
