Fiorentina Dismiss Fabio Grosso After Three Straight Serie A Defeats
Fiorentina have dismissed Fabio Grosso as first-team head coach after three straight Serie A defeats left La Viola bottom of the table.
What we know
- Fiorentina confirmed Grosso’s removal with immediate effect in an official club statement.
- The club opened the league campaign with a 4-0 loss at Roma, then suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Frosinone and a 2-1 loss against Torino.
- La Viola have conceded nine goals in those three league matches and are still waiting for their first Serie A point.
- A 4-1 Coppa Italia win over Benevento did not change the board’s decision.
- Fiorentina spent around €150 million rebuilding the squad, signing Beto, Christ Oulai, Arthur Atta, Mateo Pellegrino, Giovanni Fabbian, Marco Brescianini and Victor Valdepenas. Franco Mastantuono, Radu Dragusin, Wilfried Gnonto, Alex Jimenez and Pedro Goncalves also arrived on loan.
- Former Fiorentina coach Paolo Vanoli is the leading candidate to take over at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
What happens next
Fiorentina must move quickly before Friday’s league trip to Venezia on September 11. They then face Pisa at home in the Coppa Italia round of 32 four days later, followed by Napoli’s visit to Florence on Sunday, September 20.
The immediate task for the new coaching staff will be to stop the defensive collapse, lift a newly assembled squad and secure Fiorentina’s first league points before the autumn international break.
