Ghana Confirm Carlos Queiroz as Head Coach Again After July Resignation
Carlos Queiroz has returned as Ghana head coach, with the Ghana Football Association confirming the 73-year-old will begin a new mandate during this month’s international window.
The appointment comes less than two months after Queiroz resigned in July, following the Black Stars’ World Cup campaign. Ghana’s federation said it had reached an agreement for him to lead the side into the next stage of its programme, backing his international record, technical knowledge and familiarity with the squad.
Queiroz makes rapid Ghana return
- Queiroz was first appointed in April after Otto Addo was dismissed.
- His initial spell lasted fewer than three months before he announced his departure in July, bringing his first Ghana assignment to an end after the World Cup.

Record and immediate task
Ghana are the ninth national team managed by Queiroz. His previous international jobs include Portugal, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Colombia, Egypt, Qatar and Oman.
He led Iran at the past three World Cup finals and guided Portugal into the last 16 in 2010. At club level, Queiroz was Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant at Manchester United during a period that delivered three Premier League titles and the 2008 Champions League, while he also had a one-season spell as Real Madrid boss in 2003-04.
During his short first run with the Black Stars, Ghana beat Panama 1-0 through Caleb Yirenkyi’s stoppage-time goal, then drew 0-0 with England before losing 2-1 to Croatia.
Queiroz’s immediate job is to settle the group after their World Cup exit and prepare the Black Stars for their next fixtures. Ghana want the returning coach to quickly re-establish his approach and build towards the team’s next international phase.
