The Sims 4 Finally Gets AutoSave on July 21 to Prevent Lost Progress
After nearly 12 years on the market, The Sims 4 is finally getting automatic saving. EA has scheduled an update for July 21 that adds an AutoSave system plus other improvements, aiming to reduce the frustration of lost progress when players forget to save or the game crashes.
Quick facts
- The Sims 4 is adding AutoSave on July 21
- AutoSave can create save points when players change lots, hit milestones, or stay in-game long enough without saving
- Players can alternatively enable reminders to save after a set time
- The Memory Boost feature will roll out to all eligible players on PC, Mac, and consoles at the same time
- A quality-of-life update focused on Sim autonomy is planned for September
AutoSave will be optional and configurable. EA says it can automatically create save points during common transitions, including changing lots, reaching certain milestones, or simply being in the game for long enough without saving. If you prefer manual control, the game will also offer an alert option that prompts you to save after a customizable amount of time.
EA is also rolling out the previously early-access “Memory Boost” feature alongside the July update. This is designed to improve how The Sims 4 manages memory, with the goal of delivering smoother performance and fewer issues such as lag and crashes. EA specifically calls out that players with larger households, heavily decorated lots, and older save files should see the biggest improvements.
EA’s update schedule doesn’t stop in July. The next quality-of-life update is set for September, where the team plans to address Sim autonomy. EA says Sims will behave more consistently, with improved responsiveness, and that more details will come closer to the release—potentially in August or early September.
