The Sinking City 2 drops players into Arkham as an unnatural flood leaves nearly all residents gone, while the city’s deterioration becomes part of the horror. The story follows Calvin Rafferty, an occult adventurer whose actions lead to devastating consequences when a ritual goes wrong and sends his girlfriend, Faye, into a mysterious sleep.
Calvin’s search through a drowned Arkham
To bring Faye back, Calvin must travel through Arkham’s flooded streets. During his journey, he encounters the Slither—extra-dimensional creatures described as turning the dead into lethal, walking puppets.
Frogwares frames the sequel’s design around a blend of combat, exploration, and optional content. Players fight supernatural enemies while moving through a decayed Arkham, with the game emphasizing both foot travel and boat navigation through environments such as flooded markets and abandoned hospitals.
Combat, exploration, and limited resources
Key gameplay elements highlighted for the trip include weapons inspired by the 1920s, a limited supply of resources, and a limited inventory. The game also features optional cases and puzzles, which are said to reveal extra secrets, upgrades, and additional background information.
Alongside the action and investigative structure, Frogwares positions the narrative as Lovecraft-inspired, focusing on personal loss, occult activity, and encounters with supernatural creatures.
Early reception metrics shared by the studio point to broadly positive responses. OpenCritic shows an overall score of 81 with a “Strong” label, Steam lists a 95% approval rate, and PlayStation Network displays 4.95 out of 5 based on the first publicly visible reviews.
Frogwares’ publishing head Sergiy Oganesyan described the genre shift as a major risk, while the team also aimed to protect what existing fans value in the studio’s games. He added, “We believe this is the best game we’ve ever made,” saying the studio is encouraged that many critics and players agree.
Frogwares was founded in 2000 and operates as an independent studio developing games in Ukraine and Ireland. The team is known for the Sherlock Holmes series and for its Lovecraft work, including the first The Sinking City.
